该酒以高粱、糯米、大米、小麦、玉米五种粮食为原料并加以精巧配伍,纯小麦制成大曲,引岷江水为酿造用水,经低温入窖、滴窖降酸、回酒发酵、双轮底发酵、量质摘酒、贮存勾兑调味等独到的工序酿成。该酒清澈透明,酒味醇厚,酒体丰满甘美,落喉净爽,回甜舒适悠长,具有“清而不薄,厚而不浊”的典型风格。酒度有60、52、39、29、25 度等多种。
Wuliangye Liquor is made from five kinds of grains: sorghum, glutinous rice, rice, wheat and corn, which are carefully blended, and pure wheat is used to make the big song. The liquor is clear and transparent, with a mellow flavor, full-bodied and sweet, with a clean and refreshing throat and a long and comfortable sweet aftertaste, with the typical style of "clear but not thin, thick but not cloudy". 五粮液酒以古法工艺配方酿造而成,是最早采用五种粮食进行酿造的烈性酒。其多粮固态酿造历史传承逾千年,自盛唐时期的“重碧春酒”开始采用多粮酿造,公元765年,大诗人杜甫途经宜宾,饮重碧春酒后赞叹不已,写下了《宴戎州杨使君东楼》。
Wuliangye is the first strong liquor to be brewed with five kinds of grains. The history of multi-grain solid brewing has been passed down for more than a thousand years, starting with the "Chongbi Spring Liquor" during the Tang Dynasty, when the great poet Du Fu was passing through Yibin in 765 A.D. After drinking Chongbi Spring Liquor, he was so impressed that he wrote Banquet at the East Tower of Yang Envoy of Rongzhou.
北宋时期,宜宾大绅士姚君玉开设姚氏酒坊,在重碧春酒的基础上,配上当地的安乐泉水酿成了姚子雪曲。明初,陈氏家族创立“温德丰”酒坊,融合姚子雪曲酿制精要,将原五粮配方中的小米替换为当时新从海外引进的玉米,形成了更趋完美的“陈氏秘方”。
During the Northern Song Dynasty, Yao Junyu, a great gentleman in Yibin, opened the Yao's Brewery and brewed Yao Zi Xuequ based on Chongbi Spring Liquor with the local Anle spring water. In the early Ming Dynasty, the Chen family founded the "Wen De Feng" brewery, incorporating the essence of Yao Zi Xue Qu, replacing the millet in the original five-grain recipe with corn, which was newly introduced from overseas at the time, resulting in a more perfect "Chen's Secret Recipe".
清末,邓子均继承酒坊。晚清举人杨惠泉品尝后说:“如此佳酿,名为杂粮酒,似嫌凡俗,既然此酒集五粮之精华而成玉液,何不更名为五粮液?”言毕,举座为之喝彩,邓子均欣然采纳,五粮液自此正式得名。
At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Deng Zijun inherited the brewery. The late Qing dynasty scholar Yang Huiquan said after tasting: "Such a good liquor, named mixed grain liquor, seems too ordinary, since this liquor set the essence of five cereals into a jade liquid, why not change the name to Wuliangye?" After the words, the audience applauded, Deng Zijun gladly adopted, Wuliangye has since been officially named.

“五粮液”起初以“五粮液”作为商标销售的是“利川永”作坊。1949年以后,地方国营宜宾五粮液酒厂以“交杯”牌作为五粮液商标。
